Obituary

Barbara Kahlenberg Walsh, age 90 of Two Rivers, passed away Monday, March 9, 2026 at St. Mary’s Home at Felician Village, Manitowoc.

She was born in Two Rivers on October 24, 1935, daughter of the late Roger W. and Katherine (Bremer) Kahlenberg. Barbara graduated from Washington High School in Two Rivers with the class of 1953, then furthered her education at Northwestern University in Evanston IL. There she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and graduated with a degree in elementary education. On November 29, 1958, she married George G. Walsh at Grace Congregational Church, Two Rivers.

Barbara was a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and taught girls summer swimming classes for the Two Rivers Recreational Department. In September, 1956 she became the 34th Wisconsinite to receive the Certificate of Merit from the American National Red Cross for rescuing a drowning swimmer at Neshotah Beach, Two Rivers. She taught school in Wilmette, IL; Shaker Heights, OH; Neenah, WI; and at the Neenah Presbyterian Church Daycare Center as well as the preschool at the Neenah-Menasha YWCA. She was also a member of AAUW.

Her interests centered around her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, swimming, gardening, researching family history and loved the many years she had at her summer home on Kangaroo Lake in Door County.

Survivors include her loving husband of 67 years, George Walsh; son, William (Adele) Walsh, Cedarburg, WI; daughter, Katherine (Christopher) Simons, Two Rivers; and two grandchildren, Hayley and Torgny Simons. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Schroeder, Santa Rosa, CA; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Katherine Jane Kahlenberg.

In accordance with Barbara’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Memorials may be made to the Rogers Street Fishing Village Endowment Fund since “Rogers Street” was named after her father, Roger W. Kahlenberg, on the day he was born in 1901; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
