Berdeva V. Fischer, age 94 of Manitowoc, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, September 5, 2025 at Harbor View Assisted Living in Manitowoc.

Berdeva was born in Manitowoc on April 18, 1931 to Alvin and Josephine (Ziarnik) Van Lannen. She was a 1949 graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School and later earned her CNA degree from Lakeshore Technical College. On February 23, 1952, she married Raymond J. Fischer at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Manitowoc. Raymond preceded her in death on October 8, 1981. Over the years, Berdeva worked various jobs which included working as a CNA at Holy Family Convent, Switchboard Operator at Silver Lake College, Sales Clerk at the Book & Gift Shop, Demo Lady at Copps Food Center, and for most of her years was the Domestic Engineer Godess. She also volunteered at St. Vinney's for many years. Berdeva always kept herself busy with many hobbies and remained active in many organizations. She was a longtime member of River Road Homemakers, A Patch of Lakeshore Quilters Club, The Senior Center, and was the Red Hatters Queen for many years. She was also a member of the Catholic Knights, Catholic Women's Club, Catholic Junior League, NCO Girls Club, and Girl Scout Leader for many years.

Berdeva was an avid quilter, and made thousands of Rosaries. She enjoyed playing cards & dominoes and was a member of several card clubs. She also enjoyed going to rummage sales, crafting, reading, sewing, gardening, and making & drinking wine. She was very thankful for her long life, which was filled with wonderful and varied experiences.

She is survived by her four children: Debby (Tom) Lenz of Newton, Raymond "Butch" (Mary Jane) Fischer of Manitowoc, Candy (Neil) Dhein of Manitowoc, and Julie (David) Klinzing of Cleveland, WI; her grandchildren: Dr. Tim Lenz, Bonnie (Jason) vanGorkom, Tania (Chris) Yindra, Jason Fischer, Claire Dhein, Teddy Dhein, Joey Klinzing, Jesse Klinzing; and her great-grandchildren: Alyssa (Hunter) Tripp, Dylan vanGorkom, Dakota Fischer, RJ Fischer (fiance, Lydia), Marshall Fischer, Andrew Yindra, Matthew Yindra, and Peter (Anna) Schamburek. She is further survived by two sisters-in-law, Germaine Meyer and Marilyn Neumeyer; one great-great granddaughter, Isabelle Schamburek; and Mary Jane's children: Zayuri, Gabriel, and Kaye Mary Lorraine (Malor). She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond J. Fischer; her parents, Alvin and Josephine VanLannen; father & mother-in-law, Wilfred and Elsie Fischer; one grandson, Raymond R. (Chip) Fischer; and two brothers-in-law: Harlan Meyer and Robert Neumeyer.

A private Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, September 11th at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, Alverno.

Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels of Two Rivers assisted the family with funeral arrangements.

The Fischer family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the wonderful staff of Harbor View for their kind and compassionate care. Special thanks also to the caregivers of Sharon Richardson Hospice for the love and support extended to our mother throughout her final journey.

Berdeva was a source of love in the lives of her family. Her warmth and compassion touched everyone she met, and she will be remembered as a cherished friend to many.
