Bernice F. Swoboda, age 99, lifelong resident of Two Rivers, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, May 17, 2026, at Harbor View Assisted Living of Manitowoc.
Bernice was born on August 2, 1926, to Arthur and Beatrice (Bartz) Fanslau. She graduated from St. John's Parochial and Washington High School in Two Rivers.
On June 14, 1949, she was united in marriage to Arthur A. Swoboda in Two Rivers. The couple was blessed with two children, Michael and John.
Bernice worked in the banking industry for 42 years, beginning at the Bank of Two Rivers (The White Bank) in the back office and then Teller positions. Over the years, the bank was acquired by different entities, but she remained eventually retiring as Customer Service Officer at US Bank.
Bernice was a baptized, confirmed and steadfast member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Two Rivers.
Professionally, she was a member of the National Association of Bank Women.
Socially, she was a lifetime member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority of Manitowoc County and for years a leader of the Two Rivers TOPS organization.
Bernice and Art's keen interest in dogs led them to owning, breeding and participating in numerous AKC dog shows throughout the country. She took pride in being a member of the Great Dane Club of Milwaukee, the Border Terrier Club of America and the Midwest Border Terrier Club. Bernice and Art were also very involved with the Boxer breed.
Bernice was an avid Packer fan and season ticket holder. She was always ready with a rousing GO! PACK! GO! on game day.
Survivors include her two sons: Michael Swoboda of Two Rivers, John (Laurie) Swoboda of Sarasota, Florida; four grandchildren: Ryan (Elisabeth) Ledoda, Dylan (Danielle) Swoboda, Dana (Joel) Sauer, Christopher (Jessica) Adams; along with four great-grandchildren: Jade, Fallon, Caiden, and Calli. She is further survived by one sister, Kathleen Guthrie of Carlyle, IL; and a former daughter-in-law, Debra Schwoch-Swoboda; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Art Swoboda; daughter-in-law, Nancy Swoboda; two sisters & four brothers-in-law: Dorothy (Donald) Nate, Aileen (Kay)(Earl Gauthier) Christensen, and Homer Guthrie, Jr.; and her father & mother-in-law, John and Barbara Swoboda.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2026, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3607 45th Street, Two Rivers. Pastor John Berg will preside at the service, with burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. John's Lutheran Church Friday morning after 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. There will be no Thursday evening visitation.
