Douglas L. “Doug” Peterson, age 83, resident of Mishicot, passed away unexpectedly, August 19, 2025.
Doug was born on November 22, 1941, in Manitowoc to Gerald Peterson and Marion (Bebeau) Doidge. Following high school, he enlisted and served his country in the United States Navy.
On April 20, 1963 He was united in marriage to the former Esther Kane. Esther preceded him in death on October 4, 1993. He then met Deedee Pelnar in 1996 and the two stuck together ever since.
Doug enjoyed golfing every morning at Wander Springs with his close-knit group of golfing buddies—Mike, Bill, James, and Garth. For Doug, golf was more than just a game—it was a daily tradition filled with friendship, laughter, and good-natured competition. From the moment he pulled into the parking lot or stepped into the clubhouse, the grounds crew and bartenders greeted him with smiles; they all knew Doug well. His go-to drink at the clubhouse was an old fashioned whiskey sour, and his easygoing charm made him a beloved regular.
Doug was an incredible father—steadfast, loving, and always present. He had a unique way of making those around him feel supported, valued, and at home. One of his signature sayings, always delivered with a smile as he neared the driveway, was: “Home again, home again.” It was a simple phrase, but one that perfectly captured the warmth and comfort he brought to those around him.
For many years, Doug owned and operated D and E’s Tavern, a local favorite where his strong work ethic and friendly nature made him a pillar of the community. In his free time, he found joy riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles, embracing the open road with the same spirit of freedom and adventure that he brought to life. At home, he had a softer side—he loved cuddling with his cats while watching his favorite movies, which he took great pleasure in collecting over the years.
Doug will be missed by his significant other, Deedee Pelnar; his children, Dana (Will) Allison, Wade Peterson, Melanie (Brian) Young, Ashley Peterson, Kala (Josh) LaFleur, Autumn Peterson; his grandchildren, Jessica, Lauren, and Nicole Allison, Brenden Peterson, Bryce and Blake Young; 6 great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, David Kane.
He was proceeded in death by his wife Esther, his mother and stepfather Marian and Edward, his father Gerald, a son Erik, his mother-in-law Esther, and long time friend Art.
In accordance with Doug’s wishes, no formal funeral services will be held.
