Jo Ann Daley (nee Popelar), passed away Friday, April 24th at Oak Park Place Memory Care Home. She was 72 years old. She passed to her eternal life in the arms and care of her husband, Richard Daley after a sudden strickening event.
Jo Ann was born Jo Ann Mary Popelar in Manitowoc County, village of Kellnersville to a dairy farming family. Her Mother, Agnes Popelar (Swoboda) and Father, Eugene Popelar predeceased her. Her two sisters, Janice Kasper (Mel) of Kellnersville and Joyce Pritzl, (Don) of Luxemburg, survive her. Jo Ann and Richard have two children: Cristine M. Trooien of Mound, Minnesota, and Thomas E. Daley of Allouez. Also surviving her are grandchildren Vincent, Olivia, and Nils Trooien.
Jo Ann was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, majoring in Home Economics, textiles and interior design. Richard and Jo Ann met in her senior year at UW and married March, 1977. After working in the interior design field, she returned to Edgewood College for her K-6 elementary teaching license. While attending Edgewood, she worked part-time at her friend Mary Hegge’s tailor shop. Their family lived in Madison on Lake Monona Bay for 14 years. They moved to Green Bay and Jo Ann began a career in elementary education, 2nd grade at St Mary’s Notre Dame in De Pere. In subsequent years she transitioned to substitute teaching in various Brown County school districts. Jo Ann was a lifelong crafter, from her youth on the farm where she always entered sewing and crafts projects through 4-H at County and State fairs. She continued to these areas of interest through her University major areas of study and further stayed involved in personal projects and judging craft exhibits at several northeast Wisconsin county fairs. She always enjoyed crafting and sewing projects for her family of sisters and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 522 Tower Ave. Kellnersville on Thursday, April 30, 2026. The family would like to offer special thank you to Jo Ann’s lifelong friend, Linda Battaglia, of Allouez. Beyond the lifetime friendship of being best friends, Linda assisted greatly with multiple visits and walks weekly in the neighborhood. Later in the progression of Alzheimer/dementia, Linda would visit the Oak Park Place every Sunday with Richard to watch and participate in prayers and hymns of the televised mass. While most names and worldly concerns were no longer in her cognitive abilities, she never forgot her children, husband, Linda, sisters, and her Catholic faith.
