John D. Kappelmann, age 85, lifelong resident of Two Rivers, died peacefully early Saturday morning, December 6, 2025 at Froedtert Holy Family Memorial Hospital in Manitowoc, with his family by his side.
John was born in Two Rivers on July 8, 1940 to Walter F. and Gertrude (Schroeder) Kappelmann. He attended St. Luke's Parochial School, St. Norbert's High School in DePere, and graduated with honors from Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri. He then attended Lakeland College before joining the U.S. Army in 1963. He served 18 months in security & intelligence in Alaska and was honorably discharged in 1965. John married the former Lynn Greenberg on December 27, 1984 in Orlando, Florida. He owned & operated Brown Travel Agency from 1972 until retiring in November, 1999. He remained active as a member of Branch River Country Club; the Two Rivers Elks Lodge, where he held several offices including Past Exalted Ruler; and was a 32nd degree Master Mason. John enjoyed golfing, traveling, barbecuing, attending the notorious annual deer camp, and was an epic storyteller known for reciting jokes and limericks.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn Kappelmann; his daughters: Cheryl Kappelmann and Caryn (Hartley) Arsta, Jr., all of Manitowoc; and Marni (Wes) Milks of Orlando, Florida; his grandchildren: Hartley III, Sam (Courtney), Edison "Das", and Jacob; and five great-grandchildren: Avalyn, Tennyson, Oakleigh, Brooks, and Banks. He is further survived by the mother of his daughters, Janice Ninneman of Texas; his "little buddy" J.D.; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Gertrude Kappelmann; and one sister & brother-in-law, Gail (Horst) Partenheimer.
In keeping with his wishes, no formal service will be held at this time; a gathering with friends and family will be planned for a later date.
Burial will take place in Pioneer Rest Cemetery.
