Joyce Frances (Lodel) Novachek, age 86, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, surrounded by love and family. She lived a life defined by devotion to her family, quiet strength, and her unique touch of sass.
Born on July 11, 1939, in Norman, WI, Joyce was the daughter of Ben and Mary (Pribek) Lodel. She attended Kewaunee High School. In 1966 she met William Novachek, Jr., fell madly in love, and they married eight months later. For many years, Joyce owned and operated Screen Printing and Garments and Nova's Ark Costume Shop.
Joyce had a remarkable talent for making a house feel like home. She was an excellent cook and baker, known for her special version of chili, chicken booyah, and the traditional Czech buns she made for holidays. Her sewing skills were equally cherished. She sewed the characters enjoyed by so many in parades throughout the state for years. Joyce also had a deep love of music. She sang with the Czech Choraliers for many years and was always up for a good polka band.
Above all else, Joyce was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was the proud mother of six children Neal (Linda) Novachek, Nancy (Paul) Hansen, Nick (Lisa) Novachek, Gary (Brenda) Novachek, Sue (Dan) Cortte, and Stacy (Joel) Pare. Her legacy continues through her ten grandchildren Abby (husband Deonte), Paige, Ryan, Megan (fiancé Mason), Rachel, Will, Madilynn, Jacob, Zachary, and Tessa - as well as her cherished great grandchild Dru - all of whom brought her immense joy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three sisters, an infant brother, and many in-laws and friends.
Those who knew Joyce will remember her for her strength, resilience, love of music, and the quiet ways she showed her love.
