Two Rivers

LaVerne M. Sisel, age 99 of Two Rivers, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, January 26, 2025 at the Hamilton Care Center in Two Rivers.

LaVerne was born in Kewaunee County on March 31, 1925, to Matt and Anna (Kozlik) Schweiner. She attended a one room school in Pilsen, Wisconsin. On June 9, 1945, she married Dana Sisel at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pilsen. The couple was blessed with seven children and 65 years of marriage. Dana preceded her in death on August 17, 2010.

LaVerne enjoyed being a homemaker her entire lifetime. She was The BEST Baker of great Bohemian foods, desserts, and pastries. She enjoyed growing a huge garden and fruit orchards - canning many of the fruits and vegetables grown. LaVerne may also be remembered as being the first "vegetable lady" in Two Rivers, going door-to-door with her two daughters, selling her vegetables in the mid 60's. LaVerne and Dana were also instrumental in starting the first "Farmer's Market" in the city of Two Rivers in the early 70's. She continued to be part of the Farmer's Market with her son, Rob until just a few years ago, always enjoying conversation with the customers and fellow fruit & vegetable growers. She also worked at the City Dairy in Two Rivers years ago. LaVerne was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she sang with the church choir for many years. She was also a former member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her seven children: Roger Sisel of Manitowoc, Mary Ann (John) Rabitz of Mishicot, Marge (Rod) Henrickson, rural Two Rivers, Gerard "Gerry" (Carol) Sisel of Manitowoc, Michael (Gay) Sisel of Tennessee, John (Teresa) Sisel of Two Rivers, and Robert "Rob" Sisel of Two Rivers; eleven grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren. She is further survived by one sister, Marcella Dellemann of Maribel; one sister-in-law, Marie Schweiner of Denmark; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Matt and Anna Schweiner; her husband, Dana; brothers: Matt, Norbert, and Gerald Schweiner: brother-in-law, Edgar Dellemann; sister-in-law, LaVerne Schweiner; father & mother-in-law, Joseph and Anna Sisel; one brother-in-law and one nephew.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 30th at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3201 Mishicot Rd. Two Rivers. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Dave Pleier, with entombment to follow in Calvary Chapel Mausoleum, Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Thursday morning from 8:30 until 10:00 a.m. There will be no Wednesday evening visitation.
