The Rev. Edward Fredrick Stelter was called to his eternal home on June 6, 2026 at the age of 93, after a life of serving his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Edward F. Stelter was born in Clyman, WI on December 16, 1932 to Rev. B J E and Wilhelmine (Burke) Stelter; baptized on January 1, 1933; and confirmed by his father on Palm Sunday, April 14,1946. He attended Zion Lutheran Grade School and Northwestern Prep and College, graduating in 1954. He then attended the Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Thiensville, WI, and after graduating was assigned to Grace Lutheran Church in Crivitz, WI in 1957 where he was ordained as a WELS pastor.
On July 13, 1957 he married Lavon Heinzelmann at Zion Lutheran Church in Clyman and shortly thereafter moved to Crivitz. In April of 1958 he also served St Matthew’s Lutheran Church in the town of Beaver. The couple moved to Readfield, WI in June, 1960 where he served Zion, Readfield and St. Peter, Town of Winchester. In August of 1968 they moved to Two Rivers to serve at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Pastor Stelter served St. John’s until his retirement in June, 2003 and they continued to reside in Two Rivers.
During his school years he enjoyed sports. He was a talented athlete who continued his love of sports by participating in recreational leagues in baseball. During his ministry he served as Circuit Pastor, on the Home Missions Board, and on MLHS committees and he did volunteer work for the high school.
In the summer of 1959 he volunteered to lead devotions with the youth at Camp Bird for Lutherans. That led to serving on the staff for more than 60 years and serving on the Board of Directors until the time of his death. He loved Camp Bird dearly and thought it was a special place. He loved the idea of young people being able to gather around the Word of God to hear the wonderful news of Jesus, all while enjoying the gifts of God’s creation.
The couple was blessed with seven children: Barbara Koch, Two Rivers; Mark Stelter, Manitowoc, Pamela (Pastor Keith) Tullberg, Two Rivers, Andrea Stelter, Weston, WI, Peter Stelter, Two Rivers, Daniel Stelter, Middleton, WI, and Paula Lober, Menomonee Falls, WI. Pastor Stelter has eight grandchildren: Amanda Koch, Palm Coast, FL; Jon Koch, Two Rivers; Mark Jr. (Mary) Stelter, Manitowoc; Justine Carey, Manitowoc; Pastor Joel Tullberg, Lansing, MI; Hannah (Michael) Hensel, Jackson, WI; Andrew Lober and Emma Lober, Menomonee Falls, WI; along with four great-grandchildren: Alex Carey, Sophia Carey, Luke Hensel, and Emerson Stelter. He also has many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers, two sisters, and a son-in-law, Martin Koch.
His family and friends enjoyed his sense of humor, his calm demeanor, the advice he shared, and the life lessons he instilled in those he cared about. He loved his family and was a Christian example to them and to all that he served in his ministry.
