Roger J. Hoida, age 87, longtime Reedsville resident, currently of Manitowoc, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday afternoon, May 27, 2025.
Roger was born in Peshtigo, Wisconsin on July 24, 1937 to Edward J. and Frieda A. (Schacht) Hoida. He attended the Hamilton School in Two Rivers and graduated with the class of '55 from Washington High School, Two Rivers. He began working on a fish tug with the commercial fisherman until, as he would say, "Uncle Sam called me to serve in the U.S. Army". Roger proudly served his country as a member of the Army from 1960-1962. For the next 38 years he was employed with the Brillion Iron Works, retiring as a plant supervisor. Roger was united in marriage to Judy C. Engelland on June 29, 1963 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Two Rivers. The couple was blessed with six children.
Roger will be remembered as a man of strong faith; he was a faithful member of St. John-St. James Lutheran Church in Reedsville where he served on the church council and was also a longtime usher. He was a MLHS Delegate, and served as a volunteer and board member of Repeat Performance for many years. Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially his happy place - the "Ojibwa Hilton" hunting cabin. He enjoyed working with wood, especially making many shut boxes for family and friends; he loved to draw, and was exceptional at smoking fish. Above all, Roger loved the time spent with his family and looked forward to any family gatherings.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Hoida; his six children: David Hoida of Appleton, Dean Hoida of Schofield, Cathy (Bill) Staudt, Cindy (Rod) Meihsner, Karen (Keith) Novak, all of Manitowoc, and Cristy (Chris) Stedl of Brillion; his grandchildren include Katie (Dave) Ress, Lindy (Brian) Jachimek; Kyle (Kristin) Staudt, Brock (Maddie) Staudt, Drew Staudt; Hunter, Jack, Paige, and Grace Novak; Aidan and Brylee Stedl; and step-granddaughter, Veronica Young; along with his great-grandchildren: Caroline, Hannah, and Charlotte Ress; Brady and Lucy Jachimek; and step-great granddaughter, Izabella Young. He is further survived by one sister, Mary Hasche of Manitowoc; one brother-in-law, Robert Ruoho of Two Rivers; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Frieda Hoida; brother, Gene Hoida; sister, Phyllis Barner; father-in-law & mother-in-law: William and Linda Engelland; several brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law: Ron Hasche, Howard Barner, Suzie Monka, Jim (Bev) Engelland, Allan (MaryLou) Engelland, Paul (Ann) Engelland, and Nancy Ruoho; along with nieces & nephews: Kim Elsen, Brian Barner, Jeffrey Engelland, Mary Engelland, and Robert Ruoho.
